Education for All (EFA)
  • The major focus of this searchable site are the findings of basic education assessments of 180 countries. The reports for each country contain funding; issues and goals; statistics on enrollment; literacy; educational levels of teachers; academic and vocational education; evaluation of early childhood, primary, and secondary instruction; and more. The reports are available only in the language of submission (English, Spanish, or French). EFA is sponsored by United Nations agencies, the World Bank, and other organizations.

USAID: Global Educational Database (GED)
  • This database creates reports on primary, secondary, and tertiary education, using statistics supplied by UNESCO and USAID's Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS). Data includes numbers of teachers, numbers of female teachers, percentage of female teachers, and teacher-student ratios. Information is available by country or multiple countries, and by years or multiple years. Results may be displayed in a variety of formats.

International Comparisons in Education
  • The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), through the International Activities Program and the Annual Reports Program, collects, analyzes, and disseminates "statistics and other data related to education in the United States and other nations." The site includes education indicators and trends in mathematics and science, reading, civic education, and adult literacy. Data also available relating to primary, secondary, and higher education.

Public High School Graduation and College Readiness Rates in the United States
  • This September 2003 report uses "data from the U.S. Department of Education ... to estimate the percentage of students who graduate high school as well as the percentage that finish high school ready to attend a four-year college. We are also able to produce these estimates by racial/ethnic group as well as by region and state." Includes commentary and tables. From the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research.

BioTech
  • A hybrid biology and chemistry educational resource and research tool, intended to attract students and enrich the public's knowledge of biology issues. The goal is to make BioTech as useful a tool to a high school student as it is to a postdoctoral fellow. Includes a great dictionary and annotated links to all the best resources on the Internet for studying science and biotechnology.

The ChemCollective: Online Resources for Teaching and Learning Chemistry
  • "Virtual labs, scenario-based learning activities, and concepts tests [that] can be incorporated into ... teaching approaches as pre-labs, alternatives to textbook homework, and in-class activities." Intended for college and high school teachers "interested in using, assessing, and creating engaging online activities for chemistry education."

Traci's Lists of Ten
  • The Lists of Ten, created by an educational and technical consultant with an English teaching background "are writing assignments, classroom activities, and teaching strategies for middle, secondary, and college teachers. In addition to classroom-ready assignments and activities, you'll find teaching tips, pedagogical guidelines, [and] administrative pointers."

The Mint
  • An economics and money management primer for middle school and high school students that addresses how to earn, budget, save, and invest money. Covers the stock market, credit cards, inflation, income, expenses, interest rates, the relationship between higher education and earning potential, and more. Includes a section for teachers and parents. Maintained by the National Council on Economic Education, which "promot[es] economic literacy with students and their teachers." Searchable.
